Librarian (12-month contract)

Job Title: Toy Library Manager (Librarian)
Working Hours: Flexible. A maximum of 24 hours/week.
Working days: Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday.
Holiday: Included and based on hours worked.
Pay: £11.05 per hour. We pay the London Living Wage.
Reports to: Trustees of the Toy Library (mostly through the Chair of Trustees).
Location: Lewisham Shopping Centre, SE13 7EP.

At Lewisham Toy Library, we believe the provision of play equipment and opportunities supports children in reaching their potential, enhances quality of life and improves their chances in adulthood.

We are looking for an additional Toy Library Manager to support us with our vision. We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated candidate to join our team for a fixed term 12 month contract.

Join us and support an exciting period of growth for the Toy Library. We are signing up record numbers of new members in the community and are hoping to move into new premises in time for our anniversary. To celebrate our 50th anniversary, we would like to focus on supporting more disadvantaged families that may require additional help with providing play opportunities for their children.

Main duties:

  • Work with the existing Toy Library Manager to promote, develop and deliver a service for members which is:
    • Welcoming
    • Positive
    • Inclusive
    • Confidential
  • Provides a high level of customer service
  • Manage volunteers, including :
    • Recruit and train to help with the development and delivery of toy library services.
    • Provide support and guidance and ensure they have everything necessary to undertake safe working.
  • Manage sales of toys donated to the Toy Library, including through online channels, in the library and at special events
  • Develop procedures for loans of toys including record keeping, cleaning and maintenance
  • Attend appropriate training programmes, publications and events
  • Attend quarterly Trustee meetings.

This job description is not an exhaustive list of duties and you will also be required to carry out any other duties which may reasonably be required of you in accordance with the needs of Lewisham Toy Library. You are also required to be flexible and adaptable with respect to your role.
